General Information about our Department

 

The Institute for Mine Surveying, Mining Subsidence Engineering and Geophysics in Mining at RWTH Aachen University, in a word IFM, covers a mining specific subject area within its research and teaching activity with focus on life of a mineral extraction operation, planning, monitoring and its documentation.

Based on our core competencies Mining Subsidence Engineering, Spatial Data Management and Mapping, Surveying, Deposit Processing and Approval Procedures, the Institute works within and increasingly beyond the traditional commodities sector. Especially unconventional energy source and modern monitoring-systems generate the future assignment of the Institute. The curriculum of our department is addressed to students of the bachelor and master programs "Mineral Resources Engineering" and "Sustainable Energy".
